COMPANY HISTORY

Redpoint Climbers Supply was originated by Dan Carlson in 1989. John Pinckney and Carol Simpson, owners of First Ascent Climbing Services, purchased Redpoint from Dan in 1999. Since then, the little red shop has been bulldozed and in it's place is a 1,000 square foot, bright, clean ,new shop. The inventory has nearly tripled allowing climbers in central Oregon and visiting climbers to have access to the largest selection of climbing gear in the area.

about Carol and John

John and Carol moved to central Oregon from the Washington D. C. area in 1992. They wanted to get away from the "rat race" of busy, stressful schedules. They sold all their worldly belongings, quit their jobs and hopped in their tricked out Chevy van to head westward! They started the trip in Hueco Tanks, TX, went to Tucson, AZ, Las Vegas, NV, Bishop, CA and ended up in Bend having fallen in love with Smith Rock and the whole Bend lifestyle.

After 14 years in the area they are back in the business world but not the "rat race". They are involved --with 3 climbing businesses, First Ascent Climbing Services, Repoint Climbers supply and Entre Prises USA ~ manufacturer of climbing walls and holds.

John is an avid rock climber, of course, but in addition he is a triathlete. He says he does triathlons so he can maintain his climbing weight while still being able to drink all the PBR he wants! Carol loves climbing with a passion and also has the same passion for Bikram yoga. Her hobbies include portrait sketching, photography and working on our web site.
